What to Learn?

The Islamic religion, which was introduced to the world by Prophet Muhammad (s), invited all persons to think upon and examine their own belief system and prohibited blind imitation. In this course the principles and general belief system of Islam have been presented in seven Units in a simple and progressive manner and the proofs for the truthfulness of this belief system have been examined from the standpoint of the intellect and innate nature.

Unit 1: Our beautiful Universe

It focuses students’ attention on the wonder and beauty of creation and depicts different instances of order and harmony among the creatures of the world.

Unit 2: Theology (Knowing God)

It deals with proving the existence of God and His attributes. The “argument from design”, the “argument from fitrah” and the “cosmological argument” are three proofs for the existence of God presented in this lesson. With regard to these three arguments, some of the divine attributes have been explained and rational reasons for these divine attributes are expressed in a simple way. This lesson ends with some discussion related to the issue of divine wisdom and the problem of evil.

Unit 3: Who am I? (Knowing mankind)

It is devoted to understanding humans and some of their outstanding features and physical and behavioral characteristics and after proving the immaterial dimension of humans, takes a brief look at different features of their material and non-material being. In this lesson, the manner of human creation and some of the ideas put forward regarding this are reviewed.

Unit 4: Prophethood

The movement of the human toward perfection and correct ways of navigating along the path to felicity is the focus of the fourth unit. In this unit there are discussions related to al-fitrah, reason and revelation, being three important means of guidance toward boundless perfection; also the issue of possible conflict between reason and revelation has been simply and clearly explained from the Islamic perspective. Other key discussions of this lesson include prophets, as preachers of revelation, and their necessary characteristics such as infallibility from sin and error and possession of spiritual purity and excellence. In addition to a study of the individual and social characteristics of the prophets, the most common and important proof of their prophecy, namely the presentation of miracles, has been examined.

Unit 5: The Prophet of Mercy

“The Prophet of Mercy” (s) is the title of the fifth lesson of this book, its main focus being the high ethical character and manner of living of the Prophet of Islam (s), as well as his everlasting miracle, the Holy Quran, and the various miraculous aspects of this divine book.

Unit 6: The Hereafter

In unit six, the issue of the afterlife and belief in it, which plays a critical role in Islamic teachings, especially in the luminous teachings of the Holy Quran, has been studied. Topics such as death, the middle world (al-barzakh), resurrection and evidence for the existence of the hereafter have been discussed and a vision of the beautiful scene of paradise and its inhabitants and the ugly world of hell and its inhabitants have been portrayed for students.

Unit 7: Felicity

The final lesson of this course deals with the issue of human felicity, being the main wish and desire of all humans. After examining the relationship between the material and spiritual dimensions of human beings and the needs that arise from them, the way of providing for these needs is examined. Finally, proximity to God, which is closeness to the source of infinite perfection, being the real meaning of human felicity, and which encompasses all man’s material and spiritual needs, is explained. In the second half of this lesson, human felicity - from individual and social aspects - and approaches taken by Islam for the full development of individual and social perfection are briefly described.
